Green Smoothie Recipes

So you have heard of green smoothie benefits and you are ready to get started. How do we do it?
First off when you are ready to mix in some greens with your fruits, start off small so that your taste buds get a chance to adjust to your new healthy habit. This is particularly true if you’re coming from a mostly fast-food or processed-foods diet. So you can start off with 10-20% greens and 90-80% fruits and then gradually increase the portion of greens in your smoothie. So I’m going to share with you a few easy and tasty green smoothie recipes and then later on we’ll get into the more hardcore stuff.
Green Smoothie Recipe # 1:
Put in 1 cup spinach in your Vitamix blender
Add 4 ripe peaches with the pits removed
Add 1 cup ice
Blend to perfection by turning the machine on, and increasing speed to 10, and then high. Blend for about one minute. Serve in your favorite glass and enjoy.
To your health.

Strawberry Watermelon Green Smoothie Recipe
Posted by Farhad on Jun 24, 2010
So couple days ago my girlfriend and I go to a strawberry farm with some friends and pick our own strawberries which was fun. But now I am faced with the important task of rescuing some of these fresh delicious strawberries from becoming strawberry jam. So I threw 2 cups of them into my Vitamix Blender and a few pieces of watermelon. Then I thought why not taste a bit of this first, so I did and it tasted great. So if you’re looking for a fruit smoothie recipe, then you can stop right there or may be add a banana (mine are not ripe yet) or a bit rasberry, blueberry or something of the sort and you’ll have an awesome-tasting fruit smoothie for yourself, the family, or the kids.
But if you’re the type of hard-charging take-no-prisoner health ranger that likes to hang out on this site, then you’d want to continue on to the delicious green smoothie recipe that is awaiting you.
By the way as a side note I would to encourage all of you to buy directly from farmers whenever you can and to support your local farmers. In my studies I have come to understand how vital this project is. The health benefits to you are immense as you’ll be getting ripe local fruit that is great for your body instead of some unripe fruit that was picked too early and an average of 1,500 miles away. You’ll also be saving lots of money and supporting your local economy which will have global implications. Of course if you buy your food from local organic farmers, then you’ll be taking money and power away from agribusiness giants like Monsanto, Cargill, Dupont and Dow that poison us and the planet, and you’ll be flowing that money and power to farmers who treat us and the planet right and increase our health. Never underestimate the power of your actions and the effect of where you spend your money. Increasing the proportion of your food that you get from local organic farmers is one of the most potent and powerful ways that you can change this world…and your health. Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is local coops of people who get together to produce food and share in the profits and bounty. Just do a search on your computer for “(name of your city) CSA” or “(name of your city) organic farm”. It’s easy and fun and you’ll get to meet some great people. Or better yet, you can even plant your own organic garden right in your backyard and save a ton of money and winterizing and summerizing your lawn, save the environment from those dangerous chemicals, and save a ton of money on your grocery bill.
Anyway, on to the green smoothie
To the solution above I added 3-4 leaves of organic kale, 1 bunch of organic spinach, and 1 bunch of organic celery (5-6 stalks). Then I blended all of this in my Vitamix Blender for about a minute and added 1 tray of ice of cool it down. Poured it into a pint glass and I am enjoying this super alkalizing green smoothie right now as I’m typing this
Remember, watermelons and celery are 2 of the most alkalizing foods. For a chart on the relative alkalinity of foods and why this is important check out the book “Alkalize Or Die” by Theodore Baroody.

Enter The Avocado Green Smoothie Recipe

This one just released:
- Tomato – 1
- Apple – 1 (I like yellow ones)
- Orange – 1
- Kale – 2 leaves
- Red Russian Kale – 2 leaves (don’t ask me how they got here; I got them at the farmer’s market though)
- Cilantro – 1 cup
- And of course one whole ripe avocado
I blended these with a cup of ice and tasted a bit of it off the tamper and I was like ‘wow’
But then I did something stupid. I violated one of my own primary laws, and that is: “Don’t f**k with perfection.”
If it’s perfect and you like it, leave it alone and just enjoy it. You gotta know when to stop with the experimentation thing. As I was putting the ice back in the fridge I noticed some frozen pineapples and decided to throw them in and that threw off the taste a bit.
So learn from my mistake and try the above recipe (minus the pineapple) and let me know what you think.

New Green Smoothie Recipe Experiment
Posted by Farhad on Oct 17, 2009
Today my green smoothie came out pretty “interesting.”
Actually it didn’t start out as a green smoothie; it started out as a regular smoothie with an orange, apple, and carrot. Then I thought why not add a tomato. Then came the idea for a celery stalk. And of course cilantro and kale had to follow. Actually cilantro and kale are my favorite ingredients. Cilantro helps with detox and kale is the champion of nutrient-rich foods.
I actually did not add any water today and decided to let the orange and tomato at the buttom to provide the liquid portion of the smoothie.
So here is how it goes:
- 1 peeled orange
- 1 tomato
- 1 apple (I prefer golden apples)
- 1 carrot
- 1 celery stalk
- 1 cup of cilantro or half a bunch
- 3 small leaves of kale
- No water
- 1.5 cups of ice
As usual put the ingredients in the order listed in your Vitamix or BlendTec blender and blend on high for about a minute. Use a tamper to push down the ingredients if need be.
To your health

More Hardcore Green Smoothie Recipes
Posted by Farhad on Sep 28, 2009
Today I made this green smoothie and it came out great so I wanted to share with you my recipe. Here are the ingredients:
1. Quarter of a round medium-sized watermelon
2. 1 orange
3. 3 leaves of Kale
4. Handful of cilantro
5. 2 stalks of celery
6. 1 apple
7. 1 cup of ice
There are different elements you can use as the “base” for your green smoothie. Most often I use a cup of water to get the vegetables caught into the blades of my Vitamix blender, otherwise the blades will just spin and nothing will happen. Sometimes I will use things like store-bought orange juice like Tropicana or Minute Maid or cranberry juice if someone in my household happens to buy these by mistake. Usually I prefer to use fresh oranges as the base, but today we had some left over watermelon and I used it as the base. This is a great idea and I would highly recommend it because watermelon (next to celery) is one of the most alkalizing foods in nature. And as you may have read in the literature (such as the book Alkalize Or Die by Theodore A. Baroody and The pH Miracle by Dr. Robert O. Young) or heard on the news, pushing the body’s chemistry towards the alkaline end of the spectrum is one of the most health-promoting actions you can take. And nothing does this better than a green smoothie with alkalizing ingredients.
So we chop up the watermelon into pieces so they don’t get stuck, peel the orange and put in the rest of the ingredients in the order listed into our Vitamix blender. Then turn up the speed to 10 and High and blend for about a minute or until everything is smoothly nice and creamy. Then pour into your favorite glass, cup, or mug and enjoy.
Have a delicious day
Farhad
