More Hardcore Green Smoothie Recipes

Today I made this green smoothie and it came out great so I wanted to share with you my recipe.  Here are the ingredients:

1.       Quarter of a round medium-sized watermelon

2.       1 orange

3.       3 leaves of Kale

4.       Handful of cilantro

5.       2 stalks of celery

6.       1 apple

7.       1 cup of ice

There are different elements you can use as the “base” for your green smoothie. Most often I use a cup of water to get the vegetables caught into the blades of my Vitamix blender, otherwise the blades will just spin and nothing will happen.  Sometimes  I will use things like store-bought orange juice like Tropicana or Minute Maid or cranberry juice if someone in my household happens to buy these by mistake. Usually I prefer to use fresh oranges as the base, but today we had some left over watermelon and I used it as the base. This is a great idea and I would highly recommend it because watermelon (next to celery) is one of the most alkalizing foods in nature. And as you may have read in the literature (such as the book Alkalize Or Die by Theodore A. Baroody and The pH Miracle by Dr. Robert O. Young) or heard on the news, pushing the body’s chemistry towards the alkaline end of the spectrum is one of the most health-promoting actions you can take. And nothing does this better than a green smoothie with alkalizing ingredients.

So we chop up the watermelon into pieces so they don’t get stuck, peel the orange and put in the rest of the ingredients in the order listed into our Vitamix blender. Then turn up the speed to 10 and High and blend for about a minute or until everything is smoothly nice and creamy. Then pour into your favorite glass, cup, or mug and enjoy.

Have a delicious day
